Model Versioning enables users to manually create and manage versions of their models, similar to Google Drive versioning.

You can save a version of your model at any time, and compare it with previous models to track changes and compare updates.

This provides better control over data models and fosters collaborative work within your team.

How Model Versioning Works

Model Versioning in Ellie has been designed to be a simple, straightforward management workflow for different iterations of your data models.

Click the three dots in the modeling canvas and choose “Version History”.

This enables you to:

  1. Create Versions: Manually save different versions of your model.
  2. Track Changes: View the evolution of your model over time.

It is particularly useful for teams working on complex data projects, ensuring that every change is documented and reversible.

Upcoming Updates to Model Versioning

In the coming weeks, we will be roll out the following enhancements to model versioning:

  • Automated Snapshots: Automatically capture versions of your models at regular intervals, reducing the risk of losing critical updates.
  • Restoring an Earlier Version: Simplify the process of reverting to a previous version with a click, minimizing errors and making it possible to move forward with an older version.
  • Visual Difference Tracking: Easily identify what has changed between versions with visual difference indicators, making it easy to understand the impact of modifications.

SQL Import

In case you missed it, Ellie Version 6.6 introduced the ability to import SQL DDL statements.

As of now, we support the Snowflake dialect. You can download Snowflake SQL Worksheets and import it directly into Ellie.’

You can read more about it here.
